| Special Roundtable on series of EU initiatives will transform consumer policy |
 Somewhat unnoticed in the UK, the European Commission has embarked upon a series of wide-ranging initiatives to develop consumer policy. They will affect businesses in all sectors. A set of market investigations has retail banking as its flagship whilst work to develop new standardised redress systems for customers is underway. The Commission is exploring how to integrate consumer policy horizontally across different Directorates-General. Against this background we were delighted that Robert Madelin, the Director-General of DG Consumer Protection in Brussels led a special roundtable to explore these issues with regulators and market participants on Tuesday 27th May. The Chair of OFGEM, Sir John Mogg, the Chair of the National Consumer Council, Lord Whitty, regulators, the Office of Fair Trading, BERR and leading corporates took part in the discussion.
